What is kybella®
Kybella® is a new prescription injectable approved by the FDA that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also known as “double chin.” It is the first ever non-evasive treatment option for removing double chin fat. Up until now the only way to remove such fat was by either using Liposuction or removing it surgically. The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

A good candidate for Kybella® is someone suffering from submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.

We will customize your Kybella® treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. We will give you a series of injections at each treatment session, which are spaced a month or more apart. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions. Up to 6 treatments may be administered. After the aesthetic response is achieved, re- treatment with Kybella® is not expected.

Patients may expect mild discomfort, bruising and swelling for up to 72 hours post treatment. You are able to return to normal daily activities right away but should avoid any strenuous exercise if discomfort persists.
